how is bioplastic different from normal plastic?

Last updated on 30 July 2025

Conventional plastics, such as fossil-fuel plastics (also called petroleum-based polymers) are derived from petroleum or natural gas. Bioplastics are plastic materials produced from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, straw, woodchips, recycled food waste, etc.

Bioplastic are biodegradable which means that they completely decomposes to carbon dioxide, methane, water, biomass and inorganic compounds under the action of living organisms under aerobic or anaerobic conditions 90% within 6 months.
